Horizon Academy Youth Development
The mission of the Horizon Academy Youth Development project is to create a program in conjunction with The Gainesville City Schools and local businesses to provide a series of hands-on learning experiences for at-risk youth. Wisdom Keepers will work with students to discover what interests them as career possibilities and then create a program to engage them with employees currently in these roles.
Updates:
- After working with the Gainesville High School HUB coordinator and Horizon Academy Coordinator, the team determined that the Youth Development project would be most beneficial for the Seniors at the Horizon Academy.
- The Wisdom Keeper team conducted an assessment to determine students’ strengths and areas of career interest. That assessment information will assist the students with resume building and provide background to business spokespeople who are speaking to the students about employment opportunities upon graduation.
- Wisdom Keepers partnered with the students from The Horizon Center and walked alongside them at the Gainesville High School College and Career Fair. The College and Career Fair gave the students an opportunity to practice their speaking skills and gather information. ·
- This project continues in a pilot phase with each session being evaluated. The Committee also continues to recruit team members for 2024, especially male members.
